For over 75 years, the Electoral Reform Society of South Australia has been dedicated to ensuring fairer, more representative elections for all South Australians. Our mission is simple but critical: to guarantee that every vote counts, and every voter can trust that their vote reflects their true preferences.
While Australia boasts many positive features in its electoral system, such as:
Universal adult suffrage (everyone has the right to vote)
Secret ballots to ensure voter privacy
Accurate electoral rolls to prevent fraud
Postal and absentee voting to make participation easier
Clear and transparent vote counting processes
There are significant flaws in the current system that leave many voters unrepresented. In fact, under our existing system, too many votes either go uncounted or fail to influence election outcomes. Specifically:
